BSD Build
The most experimental pearOS build — a macOS-style desktop on a FreeBSD base. A Developer Preview: a work in progress, not ready for daily use. You're paying for the compiled build, delivered at full download speed.

This is a Developer Preview and a work in progress. It's meant for people who want to try it, poke at it and follow its development — not to replace the system you use every day. Right now:
- There's no installer yet. The ISO boots (UEFI) straight into the desktop.
- There's no web browser.
- GPU acceleration doesn't work in any virtual machine. Everything is drawn by the CPU, so expect it to be slower than it will be.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPU support are still limited and haven't been tested across much real hardware.
- Features are missing, things will break, and parts of the system change from one build to the next.
What's in the preview
What's already running in the current build. Nothing here is final, and all of it is still being worked on.
A macOS-style desktop
Finder, Dock, menu bar, Terminal and TextEdit, drawn after their macOS counterparts — built for this system, not a theme layered over an existing desktop.
Our own window server
A window server and compositor with shadows, blur and vibrancy. For now it renders on the CPU only — no GPU acceleration.
A real login window
Account chooser, password check, lock screen and fast user switching, the way you'd expect from a Mac.
FreeBSD 14.5 underneath
Built on FreeBSD 14.5-RELEASE and booted over UEFI. The package manager is wired in, but needs a network connection and is still being tested.
Wi-Fi from the menu bar
A CoreWLAN-compatible Wi-Fi stack with Control Center panels. It hasn't been tried on much real hardware yet, and Bluetooth support is limited.
A familiar filesystem layout
An Apple-inspired layout — /System and /Applications — with support for .app bundles, and zsh with the pearOS shell setup in the Terminal.
